If you have been scheduled for surgery at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, the following information will help you prepare for your procedure, and will help you have a positive and safe experience. If you have any questions or concerns prior to your surgery day, please call Same-Day Surgery at 952-442-2191, ext. 5180.
Please be sure to arrange for a ride home following your procedure and to have a responsible adult stay with you overnight if you are having general, spinal or light sedation. These are important safety precautions and failure to make plans may result in your procedure being cancelled.
Print and complete the Preoperative Information Form and mail or fax directly to the Ridgeview Business Office. This form provides Ridgeview with your basic patient information, emergency contacts, insurance provider information and more. Please complete and return at three days prior to your scheduled procedure.
Preoperative History & Physical
A preoperative history and physical is required for all patients receiving general, spinal or light sedation. The pediatric version should be completed for children through age 17 and the adult version for all other surgical patients. Bring this form to your physician to complete during your preoperative physical exam within three weeks of your surgery date.
Be sure to ask your doctor about any medications you should or should not take the day of your surgery. Ridgeview’s Anesthesia Department also provides recommendations about medications on the Preoperative Anesthesia Form.
Preop Phone Call
A registered nurse will call you to go over preoperative instructions the day before your surgery. If your surgery is scheduled for a Monday, you will receive a call the prior Friday. If you will not be available to receive the call or if you have any immediate questions, please call Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 952-442-2191, ext. 5180, or 1-800-967-4620, ext. 5180. If there is no answer, dial “0" and page the nursing supervisor.
Surgery times are not set until the day before your procedure. If you become ill or unable to keep your surgery time, please call your surgeon’s office, even after hours.
The nurse will give you instructions about eating and drinking, review your allergies and medications, and will be able to answer any questions you may have. Instructions about eating and drinking are very important, so be sure to follow them carefully so your surgery does not get cancelled. It is very important to have an empty stomach prior to receiving anesthesia. You will be asked to arrive 1½ to 2 hours prior to surgery, depending on your surgical procedure.
