Meet Victoria and Super Toryhigh fidelity simulators that mimic real life clinical events

Ridgeview Simulation The monitors are beeping loudly, the clinical teams are rushing to the bedside, the energy in the room is palpable. Victoria is about to give birth at only 30 weeks gestation. Mom and baby are the top priorities of everyone in the room.

Ridgeview teams practice high-risk situations in a practice environment

Crisis averted―mom and baby are doing well as the Ridgeview team is training for this scenario in real life. You see, Victoria and Super Tory are high fidelity simulators that mimic a clinical situation. Victoria, our adult simulator, is capable of birthing a baby, making her vital to our labor and delivery teams. We also use Victoria as an adult medical patient for ICU training, allowing our teams to practice more high-risk situations in a risk-free practice environment.

Super Tory is our infant simulator that mimics the medical needs of an infant. Super Tory is essential, allowing our teams ongoing training so they can provide better, safer care to babies in our Labor & Delivery area or our Level III NICU.

Simulation training attracts the highest quality clinical teams

Simulation is a critical component to any successful health care system. Simulation not only prepares clinical teams in a zero-risk scenario, but it is also an important recruitment tool for attracting and retaining the highest quality clinical teams. In today’s environment, nurses have a choice of where they work, and many look for employers who offer ongoing education opportunities and robust simulation programs.

Ridgeview makes plan to grow its simulation program

But, there’s so much more simulation training we can offer at Ridgeview, which is why enhancing our simulation program is one of the goals of our Cause for the Community campaign. This includes adding simulators to mirror even more complex clinical situations, moving our simulation lab out of its current home in a repurposed patient room and providing a dedicated space for larger groups of learners at one time, and enhancing the audio/video capabilities to allow for replays, various views and recording team interactions.

By increasing our simulation program, everyone is positively impacted. Ridgeview can provide advanced training to our clinical teams, which means we’re able to treat more patients with higher needs right here at home, rather than transferring them to health systems 30 minutes away. Plus, we will remain an employer of choice by continuing to attract and retain the best clinical teams in the business.

The results are already inspiring. Listen to the McMahon Family story, an example of how training equips a team for the unexpected.
