‘In great hands’ – Welcoming baby Macey after fertility challenges
Taylor and Jake Gustafson, Carver, knew they wanted to start a family right away after getting married in 2022. After facing challenges conceiving and exhausting other methods, they were overjoyed to finally welcome their daughter, Macey, in November 2025, following a successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) transfer.
Choosing where to deliver was an easy decision
“We had several friends who delivered at Ridgeview’s Birthing Center and had nothing but good things to say, so it was the obvious choice for us,” Taylor shared. Throughout her pregnancy and delivery, she received care from Lakeview Clinic providers Erin Chinnock, MD, and Spencer Ferrell, MD, FACOG.
Taylor went into labor when her water broke at home one week before her due date. From the moment they arrived at Ridgeview, she and Jake felt comforted and confident in the care they received. “The doctors and nurses were all incredible,” Taylor said. “They were friendly, had very good bedside manner, were very transparent and knew how to read the room — they knew when they could be lighthearted and when it was time to be serious.”
Offering comfort and confidence through challenges
The delivery brought unexpected challenges when Taylor developed preeclampsia (persistent high blood pressure), which can potentially cause complications during labor and delivery. Even then, she felt she was supported and in good hands.
Breastfeeding support became especially important after baby Macey was born, as she lost about 11% of her birth weight prior to leaving the hospital. “The lactation consultants gave us a clear plan to follow,” Taylor explained. “Because of this, we were able to get Macey’s weight back up to her birth weight less than a week later.” Even Macey’s pediatrician was surprised at how quickly she gained the weight back. Taylor credits that to the detailed instruction and confidence she received from Ridgeview’s lactation consultants.
Small gestures made for a great experience
The couple noticed the staff’s kindness in every interaction — even in the unexpected moments they experienced at Ridgeview. When out-of-town family happened to arrive just as they were scheduled to be discharged, the team didn’t rush them to leave so they could spend time with their family.
After returning home, Taylor experienced concerns related to her preeclampsia. When she called the Birthing Center staff, she was met with the same warmth and attentiveness. “They welcomed me back to the Birthing Center to be checked out and even provided Macey a bassinet to nap in while my lingering preeclampsia symptoms were being monitored,” Taylor shared. She was able to quickly receive the care and reassurance she needed without having to be readmitted. "The nurses were incredibly helpful and gave me the confidence I needed while navigating both recovery and life as a new mom," she said.
“Everyone at Ridgeview — from the doctors and nurses to lactation consultants and pediatricians — was nothing short of amazing. If you choose Ridgeview for the birth of your baby, know you’ll be in great hands.”
