How simulation is preparing our clinical teams for success

Innovation in health care comes in many forms―from the ability to check your medical record and communicate with your care team electronically to robotic surgery. One of the fastest growing areas of innovation at Ridgeview is our simulation training program.
Simulation training is a way for clinical teams to replicate clinical situations in a realistic and interactive fashion. Clinicians can fine-tune their skills using simulators, rather than patients―providing a zero-risk scenario to build confidence and create a cohesive care team. A robust simulation program also helps attract top-notch clinicians who desire advanced training with the latest technology.
Ridgeview has two simulators that help train our teams to assist new mothers during the labor and delivery process, treat infants in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and care for patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Yet, there’s so much more we could do, including:
- Enhancing our existing simulators to allow for advanced training in CPR, electrotherapy (electric healing), ultrasounds, insertion of IVs, tubes and more.
- Adding new simulators, including a preemie simulator, pediatric simulator and an advanced, multi-purpose patient simulator.
- Investing in wearable technology to simulate bedsores and other wounds, broken bones, burns and insulin injection sites.

Simulation is a powerful training and recruitment tool, which is why we’re focused on expanding our simulation training program as part of our Cause for the Community campaign. With increased financial support, we can add more training resources to equip our staff with the skills necessary to be able to care for patients with more complex needs.
No one wants to travel far to receive exceptional health care. Our Cause for the Community campaign is focused on ensuring that the 300,000 residents in our seven-county service area can stay right here at home to receive the care they deserve. This starts with us. This starts now. This starts by adding innovations that enhance our simulation training program.
