Roberto Patron, MD, specializes in diagnosing and treating infectious diseases — bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic — as well as investigating uncommon conditions that may or may not be infectious in origin. His special medical interests include travel medicine, bacterial infections (especially those that are drug-resistant) and zoonotic illnesses (infections acquired from animals and insects).
As a child, Dr. Patron was intrigued by science, but early experiences with his own health care pushed him into medicine. One of the reasons he chose to become an infectious disease provider was his desire to pursue the medical profession with a perspective centered on the person, not the illness. He enjoys getting to know his patients to be able to diagnose and treat diseases, sometimes very rare illnesses.
Dr. Patron and his wife are from Colombia, but believe the Midwest feels the closest to home. They are parents of two young adult children and three rescue dogs. In his spare time, Dr. Patron enjoys road cycling, traveling, baking, photography and learning new languages.
