Since completing medical school, she has served as an active-duty officer, physician and gastroenterologist in the US Air Force.

Dr. Gilkison is committed to providing a safe, compassionate environment where patients feel comfortable discussing even sensitive or private concerns. “One of the most meaningful and humbling aspects of my work as a gastroenterologist is the opportunity to prevent colon cancer — one of the most common and deadly cancers — through colonoscopy,” Dr. Gilkison shared. She believes the best outcomes come from a team-based approach and emphasizes patient education, knowing that understanding what is happening in their bodies empowers patients to take an active role in improving their health and quality of life.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Gilkison enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and her two energetic, big-hearted sons. She appreciates exploring the outdoors, photography, live music, theater and travel. Raised in the Twin Cities, she is grateful to return home after living around the country and world — including living on five different continents.

Favorite wellness tip: Drinking enough water each day is one of the most important things you can do for your gut and overall health — water is essential fuel for the body. Additionally, make time for meaningful rest. We can’t survive as human beings without it, and your gut can’t thrive without it either.
