Ridgeview Medical Center assumes operation of Sibley Medical Center
WACONIA, Minn. (Jan. 1, 2014)—Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the operation of Sibley Medical Center (SMC) and its four primary care clinics was transferred from the City of Arlington to Ridgeview Medical Center.
A new nonprofit entity, wholly owned by Ridgeview Medical Center, was created to fulfill the terms of the lease agreement including:
- The City of Arlington will own the SMC buildings and major equipment, and lease to the new corporation.
- Ridgeview will assume the operation of SMC and its clinics.
- Ridgeview will make capital investments to improve specific areas of the hospital and clinic facilities.
- Current services will continue at SMC.
A new board will govern the new organization and will include nine voting members: five Arlington residents, three from other Sibley County communities and one representative from Ridgeview Medical Center.
“This is an exciting time for all of us—including our patients, staff and greater community members,” said Todd Sandberg, CEO, Sibley Medical Center. “SMC and Ridgeview share a common vision to provide accessible, local and high-quality, patient-centered care. With this agreement, we have the opportunity to further strengthen our two health care organizations while continuing to improve the health of the people and communities we serve … for generations to come.”
Sibley Medical Center has held a management contract with Ridgeview Medical Center since 2007 and, in 2012, SMC approached Ridgeview with a request to explore a more integrated relationship. At a special Nov. 12, 2013, open meeting of the SMC Board, the Board passed a resolution recommending approval of the operating lease between the City of Arlington and Ridgeview Medical Center.
