Ridgeview receives highest environmental honor from Practice Greenhealth
Waconia, MN (June 10, 2014)—Ridgeview Medical Center was recently awarded the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award, Practice Greenhealth’s highest environmental honor, which recognizes those facilities leading the industry with innovation in sustainability, demonstrating superior programs and illustrating how sustainability is entrenched in their culture. Ridgeview also received Circles of Excellence Awards for its efforts in the categories of Waste, Greening the OR, Chemicals and Water.
Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading health care community that empowers its members to increase their efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge.
“Practice Greenhealth award winners demonstrate that the health of their patients, staff and community is central to the core of their mission,” said Gary Cohen, founder and president of Practice Greenhealth. “These award winners have a vision that all health care organizations should strive for in the future.”
These awards are given each year to honor health care institutions for outstanding programs that reduce the facility’s environmental footprint. Award winners were chosen using Practice Greenhealth’s thorough scoring and evaluation system, based on the data each facility submitted to the organization.
"Ridgeview is proud to again be recognized nationally for our commitment to protecting the health of our environment while delivering the highest quality care to our patients," said John Prondzinski, vice president, Ridgeview Medical Center.
Ridgeview has won numerous Practice Greenhealth honors in the past, being named a sustained member since 2007. Ridgeview was Minnesota’s first health care facility to be part of Healthy Environment's (H2E) Top Environmental Leadership Circle. To be considered, health care organizations must meet the criteria for the Practice Greenhealth Making Medicine Mercury-Free award, recycle at least 25 percent of their total waste and have implemented numerous and innovative pollution prevention programs.
