When to Call Your Doctor, Anticoagulation Clinic and Pharmacy

Call your doctor if you experience the following:

  • If you have a serious fall or injury

  • If signs of bleeding or clotting occur

  • Before you take new medications—over-the-counter or prescription (especially antibiotics)

  • When your diet changes significantly (e.g., eating more leafy greens)

  • When planning a trip (two weeks before, if possible)

  • If you are going to have surgery or dental work (two weeks before, if possible)

  • If you become sick with a high fever, vomiting, diarrhea or infection

  • If you become pregnant

  • If your prescription looks different than you expect or has different directions than you expect, call your pharmacy
