CHASKA, MN--Nov. 8, 2012--“We came to the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home with our mother, somewhat fearful of the days to come, but knowing we wanted a peaceful end-of-life experience for someone we loved so deeply. Within a very short time, it indeed felt like home – a peaceful place. We quickly got to know each of you and immediately marveled at your expertise, your intuitions and your kindness.” This quote is from a daughter’s thank-you note sent to staff and reflects similar thoughts expressed by others throughout the past three years.
The Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home celebrated its third anniversary in October. Through the tremendous support of Ridgeview community members, businesses and employees, Ridgeview Foundation raised funds to build and support operation of the west metro’s first hospice home. Building a hospice home in Chaska has filled an important need in the area to provide 24-hour hospice care for patients who need additional support. Patients stay for days, weeks or months with the average length of stay being 8–10 days. Patients with complex care needs requiring acute symptom management receive expert end-of-life care while their families receive support in a comfortable, home-like environment.
The City of Chaska donated the beautiful 3-acre site which offers a unique, park-like setting. Patients, families and their guests are surrounded by peaceful views of Lake Bavaria, trees and gardens.
The Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home has cared for over 300 patients with admissions increasing each year. Patients may come from Ridgeview Medical Center, from other hospitals, assisted living facilities and additionally from other hospice programs. The majority of patients are Ridgeview Hospice patients, but, 30 percent of patients are from other metro area hospice programs.
Patients maintain important relationships with their own physicians and their own hospice nurses, social workers and other staff. The hospice home provides round-the-clock care with RNs, hospice aides and a mix of support staff to complement the hospice team.
