A record number—more than 400 people—came out on Saturday, March 21, for the 5th Annual Ridgeview Friends & Family Come Together event.
Hosted at Safari Island, the event was designed by Ridgeview Foundation’s Friends & Family Committee to promote the health, wellness and safety of people in the service area of Ridgeview Medical Center and Clinics. With even more participants and activities from which to choose, this year launched a new speaker platform with which to educate community members on health issues ranging from sleep disorders, childhood obesity, diabetes education, end-of-life care and physical fitness.
Attendees came away from the event with added knowledge on nutritional wellness, community preparedness, fire safety, blood pressure readings, rehabilitation services, research studies, chair massage, online safety kits for children, identity theft, tips on effectively dealing with schoolyard bullies and more. Children were entertained in the Movin’ and Groovin’ Center, and played fun games with clinical dieticians. Everyone in attendance experienced the amazing, feel-good energy in the air!
Memorial Blood Centers collected 14 donations of blood at the blood drive—an excellent response for a community event! These 14 units of blood can impact 42 people, because each donation is actually spun into three different components: red blood cells (to be used in trauma and emergency cases), platelets (to be used for chemotherapy patients) and plasma (to be used for patients who have lost a lot of blood volume). In essence, one blood donation can affect three people! Of the 14 units of blood that were donated, seven were from first-time donors.
In keeping with Ridgeview Medical Center’s mission to enhance the health of the communities it serves, participants from around Carver County helped promote the mission to educate, motivate and inspire people to strive for overall health and wellness.
Come Together is always an educational and entertaining day for community members and their families. Ridgeview Friends & Family members look forward to another fun-filled event next year!
